Gujiya/Karanji is a popular sweet made across India during festivals and is known with different regional names. These multifunctional spoon-cutters have a dual use - the spoon part is used for the filling and the cutter is used to shape the edges. Karanji is a Maharashtrian sweet fried dumpling stuffed with a filling of coconut, wheat flour, poppy seeds, and nuts. These crispy treats are usually made during Holi, Diwali or Ganesh Chaturthi festival. Gujiya is the northern counterpart of Karanji. It is filled with mawa instead of coconut and is made mainly for the Holi festival. The overall process for Gujiya and even the shape is the same as karanji.
